This MLK Art Activity is the perfect assignment for Martin Luther King Day or Black History Month.
The following activity uses the Grid Method to recreate an image. Each student needs both the completed image and an empty grid. To complete encourage students to complete one square at a time. Continuing until they have a drawing that resembles the original picture. Once the illustration is complete. Students are welcome to add a favorite MLK quote. I have two FREE activities available that correspond with selecting a favorite quote.
The first is a FREE activity that can be downloaded on Teachers Pay Teachers. This activity requires students to select from a list a favorite MLK quote, then reflect, break it down and respond.
The second FREE activity is a Crossword puzzle available through www.onlemonlane.com in the FREE Teaching Resource Digital library. The words missing from the crossword are words selected from a list of the most famous and impactful MLK quotes.
Complete this art piece by erasing any pencil lines, and adding a dark contrasting ink using markers, crayons, or paint. Make sure to take a picture and tag @teachingonlemonlane on instagram, or join the facebook group to share your experience!
